I Found a Shockingly Fast Self-Hosted File Server (Copyparty on Unraid)

If Nextcloud feels like overkill and all you want is fast, simple file sharing on Unraid, this might be the tool you’ve been missing.

In this video, I’m checking out Copyparty on Unraid, a lightweight self-hosted file server that focuses on one thing: moving files quickly and reliably. There’s no database, no complicated setup wizard, and no unnecessary features getting in the way. You get a clean web interface, fast uploads and downloads, and straightforward folder-based permissions.

I’ll walk through:
• What Copyparty is and what it’s best at
• Installing Copyparty on Unraid using Docker
• Setting up basic permissions for public, private, and upload-only folders
• Real-world use cases where Copyparty makes more sense than heavier tools

This setup is intentionally LAN-focused. In a follow-up video, I’ll cover how to safely expose Copyparty for remote access using a reverse proxy — without opening things up the wrong way.

If you’re running Unraid, building a homelab, or just want a dead-simple file server that doesn’t get in your way, Copyparty is absolutely worth a look.
